How Do I Look Up Warrants in Arkansas?
ArkansasCourts.us is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the FCRA and does not provide consumer reports. All searches conducted on ArkansasCourts.us are subject to the Terms of Service and Privacy Notice.
You can use ArkansasCourts.us to locate a warrant in Arkansas, as it compiles publicly available information reported by Arkansas's courts and law enforcement agencies into a single search. A search reveals the warrant type, issuing court, case number, alleged offense, and bail or bond amount, when available.
Arkansas has 75 counties, each with its own circuit court, district court, and sheriff's office — and no statewide warrant database that aggregates records from all of them. The state's official court records portal, Search ARCourts, covers circuit courts that use the Contexte case management system, but not every court participates, and the system does not specifically flag active warrants as a standalone category. Individual sheriff's offices maintain their own warrant files, and the degree to which those records appear online varies widely from county to county. A few large offices publish active warrant lists on their websites; many smaller rural offices do not publish anything at all.
That fragmentation means a person searching for warrant records in Arkansas often has to check multiple sources or make direct inquiries to individual counties. A consolidated search eliminates the need to contact each county separately and provides a single starting point when the originating jurisdiction is unknown.
Are Warrants Public Information in Arkansas?
Arrest warrants and bench warrants in Arkansas are generally accessible to the public once they have been issued and entered into a court's records. The legal foundation for this access is the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), codified at Arkansas Code § 25-19-105, which states that "all public records shall be open to inspection and copying by any citizen of the State of Arkansas during the regular business hours of the custodian of the records." Court records — including docket entries, criminal case filings, and warrant records tied to those filings — fall within this mandate unless a specific exemption applies.
The exemptions that affect warrant records most directly involve undisclosed investigations by law enforcement of suspected criminal activity, which are carved out under § 25-19-105(b)(6). Search warrants typically fall into this category while an investigation is active, and they often remain sealed even after execution. Grand jury minutes are separately exempted. Records shielded by a court order under Arkansas Supreme Court Administrative Order 19 — which governs public access to electronic court records — are also excluded from online publication.
A bench warrant triggered by a failure to appear, by contrast, is tied to an existing public case and is ordinarily visible in the court's docket. The practical gap is that a record being legally public does not mean it has been digitized, uploaded, or indexed in any searchable system. Many Arkansas courts — particularly smaller district courts — still rely on paper files.
How to Search for a Warrant in Arkansas
- Use ArkansasCourts.us. Our Instant Warrant Lookup presents you with warrant record data compiled from available public resources in one convenient search. When available, you can find warrant type, issuing court, case number, alleged offense, and bail/bond amount, among other details, depending on the record type and issuing county.
- Search the state court portal directly. Arkansas's official public case-search tool is Search ARCourts, which replaced the older CourtConnect system. It covers all circuit courts and some district courts that use the Contexte case management system and allows searches by party name or case number. Coverage varies: most circuit courts provide detailed case information including charges, dispositions, and future events, while some district courts offer only limited statistical data. The system does not cover every court in the state, and sealed or confidential records governed by Administrative Order 19 are excluded.
- Call the county sheriff's office or clerk of court. For warrant records not yet reflected in the online system — or for counties whose courts do not participate in Search ARCourts — a direct phone inquiry is the most reliable path. Have the subject's full legal name, date of birth, and the county where the case may have originated ready before calling. The Arkansas Sheriffs' Association directory provides current contact information for all 75 county sheriff's offices.
- Visit in person. Circuit court clerk offices accept walk-in requests to inspect public case files during business hours. Be aware that if you are inquiring about a warrant issued for yourself, appearing at a sheriff's office or courthouse carries a risk of arrest on the outstanding warrant.
- Retain an attorney. A licensed attorney can make confidential inquiries with the court or prosecutor's office and can file a motion to quash or recall a warrant on a client's behalf without exposing the client to immediate arrest.
How Long Is a Warrant Active in Arkansas?
Arrest warrants and bench warrants in Arkansas do not expire. They remain active in the court's system until the individual is arrested, voluntarily surrenders, or a judge grants a motion to recall or quash the warrant. A bench warrant issued under § 5-54-120 for failure to appear adds a separate criminal charge — a Class C misdemeanor if the underlying case was a misdemeanor, or a Class D felony if it was a felony.
Search warrants are the exception. Under Arkansas Rule of Criminal Procedure 13.2(c), a search warrant must be executed within a reasonable time not to exceed 60 days from the date of issuance — one of the longest execution windows of any state. If the warrant is not executed within that period, it becomes void. Daytime execution is the default (between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.), though a judge may authorize nighttime execution under three narrow circumstances outlined in the rule.
Arkansas Warrant Records by County
Warrants in Arkansas are issued and maintained at the county level. Each of the state's 75 counties has a sheriff's office responsible for executing warrants and a circuit court clerk who maintains court files. Arkansas does not operate a centralized statewide warrant database, which means there is no single portal where a member of the public can confirm whether a warrant exists across all jurisdictions. Searching for a warrant requires identifying the county where the case originated — or checking counties individually if the jurisdiction is unknown.
